 Along with the regular academic sessions, different activities are held regularly in the primary section of the school. To encourage linguistic skills, the teachers recognize children who speak English well by giving them a “Smiling Face’ award. An achievement board is displayed which has the name of the scholar for the month, excellence in sports and co-curricular activities, smiling face awardees and attractive, informative pictures on General Knowledge.
Evaluation
From class I to III, students are assessed by their performance in weekly tests, projects and monthly assignments. Additional grades are given to reading, writing, mathematical skills, oratory skills and applied skills.
For students in class IV and V, weekly tests as well as half yearly and annual exams are taken. Additional grades are given for projects, assignments and applied skills.
Other Activities
Investiture ceremony for classes III to V is held in the beginning of the academic session. This ceremony is held to appoint the Office bearers for the academic year, the Junior Head Boy, Junior Head Girl and the Junior Sports Captain. The Chief Guest pins the badges on the office bearer who takes an oath of office. Parents witness this ceremony with the other students.
Scholar’s Trophy function is held to felicitate the students with outstanding performance and full attendance.
Parents Workshop - Teachers conduct a Mother’s Workshop to give basic teaching guidelines to the mothers.
Field Trips - the school organizes various educational trips for the students. They are held for class I and II which include nature walks. Different concepts like trees, shrubs, crops are explained and shown.
Day Picnic - School organizes various day picnics to places like Saffrony Resort Mehsana and the Narayani Farm.
Sports Day for the students with maximum student participation.
Special Assemblies – Special Assembly is conducted on the following days:-
- Independence Day
- Rakshabandhan
- Diwali
- Christmas and other national and religious festivals
During these sessions, the children present skits or songs related to the different festivals.
Various Inter-Section Activities like Recitation Competition, Handwriting Competition, Coloring Competition, Group Song Competition, Show and Tell, One Minute Game show etc are conducted which provide a platform for the students to exhibit their talents.
Movie Shows – Students were shown Spiderman II, Baby’s Day Out, ‘Laurel and Hardy’, and ‘Dunston Checks In’ using LCD in the A/V room.
Cartoon day- students of class I and II dress up as different cartoon characters and come to school.
Teacher’s day-the regular teachers take a backseat while enthusiastic student teachers take center stage. The little misses wear saris and the little masters come in formal trousers and shirts.
Students are also prepared for inter school and intra school quiz competitions
Power point presentations designed by the teachers on various subjects are used to explain different concepts, like the House and Clock were shown to the students using LCD in the classroom.
Students of Class II participated in Zyfest , a Cultural festival held by Zydus School for Excellence and won prizes in group song competitions and other contests.
Students participated in large number in Essay Writing competition and Drawing competition held by Avantika. Students have participated in various inter school competitions and national level drawing competitions and many of them have won prizes for their presentations.
Students participated in several Coloring Competitions held by Gujarat State Art Teacher’s Association, Akhil Bhartiya Nagrik Vikas Kendra etc .
Project work is a part of each academic session. This encourages creativity and requires them to go beyond their textbook. The students are then asked to address the class and summarise what they have done in their project.
Counseling: Students lagging in studies are given individual attention by Remedial Classes organized immediately after the Mid Term Exam. The batches are small and teacher give special assignments and guided learning takes place in these remedial classes
Mentoring: Mentoring classes are held twice in a week. A monthly schedule has been prepared for every academic session. A lesson from the prescribed value education book is done and activities pertaining to it are carried out. Activities which increase General Knowledge are also carried out in these sessions. The children are also counseled and efforts are made to find out the strengths, weaknesses and problem areas of every child. Solutions are sought to these observations. Experts and in-house counselors train our teachers about the finer points of mentoring. We have observed over the years that our school based mentoring has had a tremendous effect on academic performance and personal growth of child. |
