Calamity – Relief and Rehabilitation
Earthquakes, floods and lately the tsunami have devastated our people and our country. With loss of lives, there has been a tremendous loss to infrastructure, schools, business establishments and homes. Our organization has made considerable efforts to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation programs whenever such disasters have struck.
- Relief Fund : Calorx Relief Fund has been set up which provides necessary help by way of relief materials, logistical support and even rehabilitation programs in case of need.
- Tsunami Relief and Rehabilitation : The Andaman and Nicobar Islands were amongst the worst hit when the tsunami hit the shores of India on the 26 th of December, 2004. The Calorx Foundation stepped into the next phase of help which is reaching the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We are participating in the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of the Islands as a partner of the Administration of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Our contribution is to construct schools in the Little Andaman Island.
The Calorx Foundation has entered into a partnership agreement with the Adminstration of Andaman and Nicobar to construct 2 schools in Harminder Bay and in Hut Bay in the Little Andamans within a span of 12 months.
The total cost of the project to construct 2 schools will be about Rs. 22/- lacs. We would like you to donate generously towards the Calorx Relief Fund. All donations to the Foundation are exempted under 80G on the Income Tax up to 50%. Our aim in building schools is to put back a smile on the children of the Andaman Islands and help them in rebuilding their shattered lives.
- Earthquake in Gujarat in 2001 : Relief and rehabilitation
The Calorx Foundation provided logistical support to all international relief and rescue teams as well as national and international press core coming to Gujarat. It also helped in transportation of relief material and supplies to Kutch.
The Calorx Foundation adopted the Karuna Trust Hospital in Usmanpura, Ahmedabad. Medical relief operations were conducted in close co-ordination with the Ahmedabad Medical Association and the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad:
In its effort to provide a rehabilitation package to those rendered homeless, the foundation started a shelter - Visamo, with all amenities in the safe and sprawling Gujarat University grounds in Ahmedabad. Visamo gave shelter and food to nearly 2000 denizens of Ahmedabad over the period of 2 months.
Considering the vast number of villages which were badly affected by the earthquake, Calorx Foundation adopted a village in Surendranagar district for primary rehabilitation by providing tents, ration for over a month, medical supplies and psychological help to the villagers.
At least 4000 schools were either destroyed or damaged by the earthquake. Calorx foundation undertook the job of constructing about 39 schools in 1 year.
